Reading fiction makes you more empathetic, or at least better at imagining that other people have an interior life at all, which may be the same thing.

@omary better at modelling other minds, probably. Kinder, no evidence at all, and those keep getting reported as the same claim.
@piar nobody has established the direction. People inclined to imagine other minds might simply enjoy novels more.
