Being a fan of something has turned into a job. Watch the thing, read the discourse about the thing, have a position on the discourse. I miss just liking a programme.

There is now a correct opinion to hold about almost everything, arrived at collectively within about a week of release, and being late to it is its own small failure.
You are expected to have consumed the reaction as well as the work. Enjoying something quietly now reads as not paying attention.
