Being poor is expensive and nobody tells you until you are in it. Cheap shoes twice a year, the meter that costs more per unit, the deposit you cannot save because you are paying someone else's mortgage.

@omarb the premiums are real and so is the exhaustion, and the second one is harder to legislate away than the first.
@vikraml some of it is structural and some of it is that being skint is exhausting and exhausted people make worse decisions. Both are true and only one gets discussed.
