That dentistry sits outside the NHS is the strangest line anyone has ever drawn through a human body. Teeth are in there. They hurt. Nobody can explain it.

There is no clinical reason, only a historical one — it was carved out in the fifties for cost, and the carve-out outlived everyone who could remember why.
The result is that dental pain is now a means-tested condition, which is a genuinely mad sentence to be able to write.
